The two football powerhouses of Manchester, Manchester City and Manchester United, are both reportedly keen on securing the signature of Francisco Trincão, a former Barcelona player, during the upcoming summer transfer window. According to the Mirror newspaper, Trincão, currently playing as a winger for Sporting Lisbon, has caught the eye of both clubs, though City may face stiff competition from their rivals United in the race to acquire him.

Trincão, a Portuguese international, has been impressing in the Primeira Liga, continuing to showcase his talent at Sporting Lisbon. His performance stands in stark contrast to his previous stint in the English Premier League, where he struggled to find his form during his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Despite the challenges he faced in England, Trincão has rediscovered his best form in Portugal, becoming an integral part of the Sporting lineup. His resurgence has certainly not gone unnoticed, with top clubs in Europe keeping a close eye on him.

Interestingly, it was Ruben Amorim, the current Manchester United manager, who brought Trincão to Lisbon from Barcelona. With his history with the player, it is widely speculated that Amorim will target Trincão again in the summer, aiming to bring him to Old Trafford. Amorim's influence at United could give them an edge in the race for the 25-year-old winger, though the competition will undoubtedly be fierce.

On the other side of Manchester, Hugo Viana, the former Sporting Lisbon sporting director, is set to join Manchester City. Viana's deep ties to Sporting Lisbon mean that he could look to bring several players from his former club to City, with Trincão being one of the primary targets. This creates the potential for a thrilling transfer battle between the two Manchester giants, who will both be eager to bolster their squads with the talented winger.

Sporting Lisbon is aware of the growing interest in Trincão, and they are determined to keep him in their ranks. The club is reportedly preparing a new offer to extend his current contract, which is set to expire in the summer of 2026. This move is likely an attempt to ward off interest from the Premier League clubs, but whether it will be enough to convince the player to stay remains to be seen.

Trincão's impact this season has been remarkable. He has played more minutes than any other player in Sporting Lisbon's squad and has scored 9 goals so far. With the season still ongoing, Trincão is targeting a milestone of 10 goals, something he has already achieved in the previous two seasons, and it is clear that he is playing with a renewed sense of confidence and ambition. His desire to maintain his form and reach new heights will undoubtedly make him even more attractive to potential suitors this summer.

The winger's journey has been anything but straightforward. After a brief spell at Barcelona, where he was signed from Sporting Braga, Trincão’s time at Camp Nou was disappointing, and his stay was cut short. He was loaned to Wolverhampton Wanderers, but his time in England was far from successful, as he failed to make the desired impact in the Premier League. As a result, Sporting Lisbon secured a loan move for Trincão before making the deal permanent. This return to Portugal has been pivotal in revitalizing his career, and now, it seems that the player is ready to take the next step, whether it’s in Manchester or elsewhere.
