Paris Saint-Germain thrashed their visitors Lille 4-1 on Saturday in the 24th round of Ligue 1.
Bradley Barcola, Marquinhos, Ousmane Dembélé, and Désiré Doye scored for PSG in the 6th, 22nd, 28th, and 37th minutes, while Jonathan David scored Lille’s only goal in the 80th minute.
This victory allowed the Parisian giants to increase their points tally to 62, maintaining their top position and securing their fifth consecutive win, temporarily extending their lead to 16 points over second-placed Olympique Marseille.
Meanwhile, Lille remained stuck on 41 points in fifth place, suffering their fifth loss of the season in Ligue 1.
This win boosts PSG's morale ahead of their Champions League Round of 16 first-leg match against Liverpool next Wednesday, while it raises doubts about Lille’s form before their Round of 16 clash against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
PSG wasted no time putting pressure on their opponents. Barcola almost scored in the opening seconds with a shot that went wide of the post.
In the 6th minute, Ousmane Dembélé fired a shot that was parried by Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, but the ball fell to Barcola, who tapped it into the net to score his 12th goal of the season.
Chevalier denied several attempts from Achraf Hakimi, João Neves, Dembélé, Désiré Doye, Gonçalo Ramos, and Nuno Mendes before Marquinhos doubled PSG's lead with a header from a cross by Doye.
Dembélé added a third after a great team move started by Doye’s run down the left, followed by a pass to João Neves, who laid it off to Dembélé, allowing him to score easily. Dembélé later set up Doye, who blasted the ball into the net for PSG's fourth.
On the other hand, Gianluigi Donnarumma, PSG's goalkeeper, had little to do in the first half and went into the break with a clean sheet.
PSG’s pace slowed down in the second half, and Lille tried to reduce the deficit with several attempts from Ethan Mbappé, Nabil Bentaleb, and Aleksandar, but all missed the target.
Lille’s pressure paid off in the 80th minute when Jonathan David capitalized on a rebound from Donnarumma’s foot, following a shot by his teammate Ethan Mbappé, and netted his 13th goal of the season.
Chevalier saved more chances from Portuguese striker Gonçalo Ramos, while a goal by Barcola was ruled out for offside. The match ended with a well-deserved 4-1 victory for PSG.
