Paris Saint-Germain officially clinched the 2024-2025 Ligue 1 title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Angers at the Parc des Princes on Saturday, in matchday 28 of the French league season. The only goal of the game came in the 55th minute, courtesy of Désiré Doué, who capitalized on a precise cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to seal the win and confirm PSG's dominance in the domestic competition.
This triumph marks PSG’s fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title and their 13th overall, extending their lead as the most successful club in the history of the French top flight. Saint-Étienne remains second in the all-time rankings with 10 league titles. With this win, the Parisian club reached 74 points, maintaining a commanding lead at the top of the table. Monaco, their nearest rivals, trail behind with 50 points ahead of their fixture against Brest in the same round. Angers, meanwhile, remain in 14th place with 27 points, dangerously close to the relegation zone.
From the first whistle, PSG demonstrated their superiority and took control of the game. They created several scoring opportunities in the first half, but struggled to convert them. Portuguese forward Gonçalo Ramos missed three good chances with headers that sailed over the bar, while Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi kept testing the Angers defense with shots from distance. Angers goalkeeper Yahia Fofana was in fine form, denying an early effort from Kvaratskhelia in the fifth minute and later pulling off a spectacular save from a powerful shot by Vitinha in the 34th.
Angers offered little threat going forward, relying mostly on counterattacks and isolated attempts by Hamid Abdelli, Farid El Melali, and Esteban Lubulu. Despite PSG's dominance, the first half ended in a goalless draw, largely due to missed chances and Fofana’s heroics between the posts.
The second half began with high drama. In the 51st minute, Lubulu thought he had given Angers the lead, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. That moment served as a wake-up call for the hosts, who responded just minutes later. Kvaratskhelia, who joined PSG from Napoli during the January transfer window, delivered a pinpoint cross from the left flank, which Doué finished confidently to give the Parisians a deserved lead.
It was Doué’s fifth goal in 25 league appearances this season, and Kvaratskhelia’s third assist for PSG since his mid-season arrival. The home side nearly doubled their lead shortly after, when Fabián Ruiz unleashed a curling shot towards the top corner, but Fofana was once again up to the task, tipping the ball over the bar.
Luis Enrique made several substitutions to inject fresh energy into the team, bringing on Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, and Nuno Mendes in place of Ruiz, Ramos, and Bacho. Later, João Neves replaced the goal-scorer Doué. Dembélé almost made an immediate impact, weaving his way into the box before dragging his shot just wide.
In the closing stages, PSG continued to press, but Fofana stood tall, denying further attempts from Hakimi, Kvaratskhelia, and Mendes. Angers' best late opportunity came from Raoul Usola, but his shot flew over the bar.
As the final whistle blew, PSG’s players and fans erupted in celebration, securing the league title with six matches still to play. They now turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League, where they will face Aston Villa on Wednesday in the first leg of the quarterfinals. Angers, on the other hand, suffered their fifth consecutive defeat and remain in a precarious position near the bottom of the table.
