Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian star and forward for Liverpool, has made it clear that his ambition to win the Premier League this season is stronger than ever before. At 32 years old, Salah is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career with Liverpool. So far, he has scored 25 goals and provided 17 assists in the Premier League, playing a pivotal role in helping the team create a significant gap over their competitors in the league.
In a recent interview with "Optus Sport," Salah revealed that his primary goal this season, for the first time since joining Liverpool in 2017, is to win the Premier League title. He stated, "The biggest motivation for me this season is to win the English league, not the Champions League!" This is a significant shift in his focus, as, for the past seven years, Salah has always regarded the Champions League as the most prestigious competition. However, he explained that this is the first season in which he has set his sights on winning the Premier League over the European competition.
Although Salah did achieve Premier League success in the 2019-2020 season, that victory came during the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly altered the celebrations. Liverpool secured the title, but the celebrations were subdued as the trophy was lifted in an empty Anfield, and there were no parades through the streets of Liverpool due to health restrictions. Reflecting on that experience, Salah shared his desire to experience the full joy of winning the Premier League with the fans in the stadium and in the streets of Liverpool. He remarked, "I just want to win the Premier League with the city and the fans and experience that moment." He added, "Walking with the trophy through the streets of the city would be unbelievable!"
Salah’s hunger for this achievement underscores his love for the club and the city. If this season ends with him lifting the Premier League title, it would mark a perfect farewell for him as a Liverpool player, though it may not be his only accomplishment. Liverpool is also set to compete in the final of the English League Cup this month, and the Reds are strong contenders for the Champions League title as well, further adding to the potential for an unforgettable season.
